Letters from Iwo Jima took top honors as Best Foreign Language Film, up against the likes of Pan's Labyrinth, Volver, Apocalypto, and The Lives of Others.. Other great wins were Forest Whitaker for Last King of Scotland in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, and Martin Scorsese for Best Director.
