Monthlies
Just like the dailies it represents, monthlies is a monthly DD tradition, where work footage from the various teams are shown to the rest of the studio. This month was no different than last month or the month before, except for some new, completed footage of a couple of the films we are working on, and a couple of the commercials that have just been finished.
Unfortunately, Digital Domain is not listed in IMDB for any of the films we saw in monthlies (except for Flags of our Fathers and My Super Ex Girlfriend), so I can't really comment on which films or commercials were shown.. Hmm.. Looking at the IMDB page for Digital Domain, I noticed that we're on the list for Transformers now. That's pretty good news.
Anyway, aside from the unmentionables, the shots that were shown that are complete are pretty amazing. It's very interesting to see what the originating footage for the shots were, and how far they have progressed and what we as artists have added to them. The Super Ex stuff is pretty impressive, and should be a great break from the other superhero film that's coming out soon. So much of what we do are invisible effects, and it's really tough to figure out exactly what we accomplished! Definitely a great plus for me, since I like integration and making believable make-believe.
As I write this, I find it inopportune that I'm in an industry that has to keep a tight wrap on projects until completion, which unfortunately limits the amount of stuff I can reveal to you. So I apologize in advance for the vagueness that may emanate from this blog now and again. Ah, the wonderful restrictions of a NDA.
